Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) for Small Business
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overviews for a local contractor, the answer names a few businesses. GEO is the ongoing work of making your site easy for those systems to read, understand, and cite.
It is a monthly pilot, not a ranking promise. We fix your site's structure, schema, and content clarity, check how AI systems describe you, and report what changed.
Starting at $1,490 per month for one location.

| Monthly schema audit and fixes | Yes | Yes |
| Visibility report | Quarterly | Quarterly |

Not included: rewriting your website copy (we flag what needs clarity), design changes, paid advertising, and any guarantee of rankings or mentions.
Who it fits
Local service businesses that serve a specific city or county: roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, dental, legal. It is not built for e-commerce stores or national brands.
How the work runs
Month 1: setup 1. Audit your current structure, schema, and content clarity 2. Create or fix llms.txt 3. Add or correct Service and LocalBusiness schema: what you offer, where you serve 4. Build FAQ schema from your real customer questions 5. Confirm in Google Search Console that Google reads the changes
After that: ongoing 1. Check how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews answer questions about your services and area 2. Add FAQ content and schema for new questions 3. Update llms.txt and schema when your services or locations change 4. Record the results and send the quarterly visibility report: what changed and what's next
llms.txt is a community proposal, and the guides we reviewed agree it is not a ranking factor. We treat it as a cheap supporting file. Most of the value comes from clear schema and clear pages.
SEO, AEO, and GEO
| SEO | AEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank in Google's results | Be the answer in Google's AI Overviews and featured answers | Be named in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and similar tools |
| Main levers | Keywords, links, page speed | Structured data, direct answers | Clear schema, consistent business facts, clear pages |
These overlap, and you usually need all three. GEO builds on the same clean structure.
Your market: NEPA businesses by county
Establishment counts below are businesses with paid employees. Sole proprietors with no staff aren't counted, so the real number is higher.
| County | Population | Roofing contractors | Plumbing and HVAC contractors | Dentist offices |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lackawanna | 215,834 | 15 | 72 | 83 |
| Lehigh | 375,408 | 25 | 89 | 162 |
| Luzerne | 325,978 | 20 | 94 | 94 |
| Monroe | 167,784 | 17 | 64 | 42 |
| Northampton | 315,927 | 12 | 114 | 119 |
| Five counties (sum) | 1,400,931 | 89 | 433 | 500 |

Break-even calculator
You decide what one extra customer is worth. The formula:
Jobs per month to cover the fee = monthly fee ÷ gross profit per job
| Gross profit per job (example) | Jobs per month to cover $1,490 | Jobs per month to cover $2,490 |
|---|---|---|
| $500 | 2.98 | 4.98 |
| $1,000 | 1.49 | 2.49 |
| $2,000 | 0.75 | 1.25 |
| $3,000 | 0.50 | 0.83 |
Over a year, the fee is $1,490 × 12 = $17,880 (Tier 1) or $2,490 × 12 = $29,880 (Tier 2). The profit figures above are example inputs, not results. We can't tell you how many jobs GEO will bring. We show what it would have to bring to pay for itself.
FAQ
What is llms.txt and does it matter?
It's a text file that lists your key pages and services in plain language for AI tools. It is a proposal, not a Google standard, and it is not a ranking factor. We include it because it costs little. We don't build the program on it.
How do we know GEO is working?
We run the same set of questions about your services and area in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews each month and record whether your business is mentioned and what is said. We also validate your schema and check that your pages are readable. You see the results in the quarterly report.
Is this a guarantee that we'll appear in AI answers?
No. We call it a pilot because AI systems change often, and results depend on your competition and your content. We commit to the technical work and the monitoring. We don't promise mentions or rankings.
How do we measure success without promises?
Three things: technical readiness (valid schema, complete llms.txt), whether AI answers mention you for your key services, and whether what they say is correct.
What if our competitors don't do GEO?
We can't tell you what they're doing. Your reports show how AI systems describe you next to competitors for your key questions, so you can see where you stand.
Can we do this in-house with ChatGPT?
Partly. You can write llms.txt yourself and ask ChatGPT for schema templates. What takes time is validating the markup, re-checking AI answers every month, and keeping everything consistent as your business changes. That's the work this program covers.
